Lenses
A lens is a circular prism.  "Convex" lens are thicker in the center than at the edges. "Concave" lens are thinner in the center than at the edges and "Plano" means flat.  Simple lens are the same on both sides.  Complex lens have one configuration on one side and another configuration on the other.

Individual Lenses
All lenses are unmounted.  All are made of highest quality optical glass
Size = Diameter x Focal Length  Diameter is the distance across the lens
Focal Length is the distance from the optical center of the lens to the point where an image is in focus

Bi-Convex Lenses

The center of the lens is wider than the edges

Bi-Concave Lenses

The center of the lens is thinner than the edges

38mm Lenses
Great for use with our Optical Bench

Neutralizing Lens Set
Consists of a biconcave and biconvex lens.  When used together, they neutralizes each other, the resulting effect being that of a plane glass.  Both lenses are 38mm in diameter and have a focal length of 150mm
  No. SL230-SA. Only $6.25
Spherometer
Not sure of how much curvature is your lens or mirror?  Use this precision instrument to determine the radius of curvature of spherical surfaces, such as mirrors and lenses.  The micrometer screw is graduated to measure displacement as small as 0.01mm. The instrument has two brass plates and three steel legs.  A flat glass plate is provided for support while taking precision readings.
  No. SL230-MA.  Only $12.95
"Cylindrical Lens"
prm-i1.gif (2844 bytes) prm-i2.gif (3292 bytes) prm-i3.gif (2803 bytes) prm-i4.gif (3272 bytes)
The name comes from the fact that the sides are shaped like segments of  a cylinder. These special lens are used to focus light along a straight line.  Rather than direct light through the wide side, it is directed from the edge.  Useful for looking at full paths of "rays" on paper, such as pencils of light emerging from the slits of a comb illuminated by a small lamp.  Great experiments result from using with one of our laser lights.  All are made of optical glass and highly polished.   They are 50mm x 45mm in size and have a 143mm focal length - 7 power.
